A K-theory class of a closed manifold M is called asymptotically flat if it can be represented by Hermitian bundles with compatible connection, such that the curvature associated to the connection is arbitrarily small. I extend this notion to K-theory classes of finite simplicial complexes, and show that this notion is invariant under pullback via maps which induce isomorphisms on fundamental groups. The same methods apply to show that Gromov's notion of infinite K-area depend only on the image of the fundamental class of M under the classifying map of the universal cover of M.
