Cognitive predictors of achievements in higher STEM education: the case of spatial ability and mathematics
23.5.2019, 16:15 - 17:15

Beschreibung:
There is currently great interest in attracting young students to the domains of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The transition into higher STEM education is nonetheless challenging for many students, and finding out which factors determine its success attracts a lot of research interest. Psychological research identified spatial ability as particularly important for STEM learning, and as a powerful predictor of STEM success. This talk will introduce research on the role of spatial and other cognitive abilities in STEM learning, particularly in mathematics. Recent findings from research among ETH students, which does not entirely align with previous conclusions, will be presented.
