We show that removing a ray R from an open symplectic manifold M does not change its symplectomorphism type, i.e. M\R is symplectomorphic to M.
Under a certain condition, this stays true for families of rays.
This permits us to infer that an exact symplectic form always admits a nowhere-vanishing primitive.
