Life begins with the fertilization of an egg by the sperm. While common model organisms such as the mice are efficient in pre-implantation development, this is not the case for primates including human. One contributing factor could be aneuploidy, which is frequently detected in arrested primate embryos. In this seminar, I will present our latest progress on using long-term live-cell imaging and single-embryo proteomics in elucidating the different contributions of mitotic aneuploidies and endoplasmic reticulum stress to embryonic arrest during human pre-implantation development.
